This year, we are thrilled to welcome Morgan Palmer, Chief Meteorologist at KIRO 7 News, as our emcee. Morgan will take us on an exciting journey to discover the work our Foundation is doing in to make an impact on students in our community right now!

Watch our high-impact, year-round programs at work to feed hungry children, reduce youth depression and anxiety, mentor young students, help kids build meaningful friendships, build future leaders, and prepare students for college.

Dive deep into our 5-year investment into training school librarians and expanding materials to ensure that all LWSD students can see themselves and their peers reflected in diverse and culturally authentic library collections.

We'll hear from Kai Vanderlip, a junior at Tesla STEM High School and recipient of a recent LWSF grant. Be inspired by Kai's efforts to promote social justice through his work with K-5 students at LWSD elementary school libraries.

Discover how our investment in a weekly Spanish video newsletter is supporting our community of Spanish-speaking and Latinx families through thoughtful and culturally-relevant communications.

Learn about the dedication and hard work that our middle school students put into preparing for Battle of the Books, and view clips from the District Battle as finalists use their keen knowledge of books to compete for a top spot!

Listen to our District Superintendent, Dr. Jon Holmen, describe the impact of Lake Washington School Foundation's work on the academic success and emotional wellbeing of students throughout our district.

Relax and enjoy pre-show musical entertainment at 11:45am by The Royals, a jazz band comprised of students from Tesla STEM and Eastlake High Schools.

Building Inclusive Library Collections

Lake Washington Schools Foundation is excited to announce our partnership in the district's equity efforts through the commitment of a 5-year grant to increase the diversity of library collections across the district. Our ability to partner in this important work is a testament to the generosity and loyalty of our donors.

As part of our grant, district librarians will receive training to perform diversity audits of the fiction collections in their libraries, and to take action to broaden the diversity represented in these collections. Funding will be provided to each librarian to select and purchase new books based on needs identified in their diversity audit.

Through our partnership with the district, our hope is that every student will be able to see themselves and their peers represented in more inclusive and expanded library collections.

LWSF Program Updates

Balance in Mind hosts "Parent Chats" with mental health experts to discuss pressing topics surrounding youth mental wellness. Upcoming Parent Chats include Anxiety in Elementary Aged Children, Understanding Anger, and Taming Screen Time. Register here.

LINKS Lunch Buddies connects students with caring adult mentors. Many mentors say that the rewards they gain from their mentoring relationship are as substantial as those for their mentees. Consider becoming a mentor and making the world of a difference to a local student. 

Kids Coming Together community service events are great opportunities for children grades 3-8 to meet new friends and connect with their community. Register for upcoming events.

In March, our Pantry Packs program assembled and distributed 3,131 weekend food packs to food-insecure students throughout the district. You can support our students by donating via our Amazon Wish List.

Find Your Fit is a resource to help students and parents understand the next best steps in the college planning process. Register now for our Executive Functioning Skills webinar on May 5.
